Hi all, I'm looking for a treat bag that does up like a belt round my waist so that I can hold treats easily in the summer when I'm not wearing a big coat with pockets. It also needs to be big enough for my mobile and car keys as I don't generally take bags out with me when I walk Bob.
    I really like this one
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spoilt-Rotten-Training-Great-Puppy/dp/B005WI76A2/ref=cm_cd_al_qh_dp_i

but it costs an extra £3.50 for shipping which seems a lot.

What does everyone else use? Any recommendations?

    Lou x

I bought a bum bag which has multiple pockets so I've for one for PLO bags, another door tissues and wipes, one for mobile, one for keys, one for treats and I always have some cash in another zipper pocket. Comes in useful for trips to the vet as well so I can pop a bank card in with the change.

We have the Doggone ones :) Happy with them. You may need to buy the waist strap separately (depends on where you buy from maybe?).

The compartments in it are handy. I use the side pouches for clicker and roll of poo bags.

Yup, I bought the strap separately, but it's only just over a pound from the same website, so not going to break the bank. The same pouch on eBay was more expensive, as was a similar belt.

I'm currently working my way through my lists of things to get for when we're in the UK, placing orders and having them sent to my mum. I think her spare room may be getting rather full

To be fair, though, I'm a bit of a dwarf, so don't take up much space in the car. It would make a lot more sense for me to remain in the car and to put the husband on the roof rack.

The trainer told me tonight not to get a treat bag and continue putting treats in my pockets ..... They are all so different!!!!!! I'm getting one anyway.

I was told that by one trainer as he felt that it was effectively a bribe but I figured as soon as I've taken one treat out of my pocket the same applies and also if I pick up a clicker there's a massive clue for my smart pups right there ;D

    Definitely do what you prefer!

    Re: Treat bag

Some trainers might have a view that treat bags make it obvious to the dog when you do and don't have treats, so they might only pay attention when they see the treat bag. I use a treat bag but sometimes treat from a pocket as well, and I have no troubles with that approach. To be honest there is no way I could fit all the treats I use into a pocket - a treat bag is essential (and means you can get treats out fast). Also, when a dog is learning new things or harder versions of things (which is usually the case in every training session) you definitely want them to know that good treats are on offer so a visible treat bag can be a good thing. :)

I agree with Rachael's reasoning - there are some great reasons to use a treat bag. And my dog gets rewarded in lot of different ways, when I have my treat bag and when I don't, often with a ball or with play, or by access water or even "go sniff". On day to day training walks, I'll often have my treats in a pocket. Or in my training vest.

I think he sees my clicker on my wrist, or the way I hold the lead (for walk at heel rather than roam about on a loose lead) as a much bigger hints that "we are working for treats now" than my treat bag (but in any event I have a cue for this). A treat bag has really never been a problem for me.

But I never intend to do any tests for competition, so I don't much care anyway. I never don't have treats, and the very rare occasions when I can't use them (usually only when we are going to the vet's and he needs sedating or a general anaesthetic) he has always followed well proofed cues anyway.

    Re: Treat bag

I brought this up a while back and came to the same conclusion as Julie; I'm never going to be competing, so it's not an issue for me. I always have a treat bag when we're out for walks or training, and I generally have other treats in various receptacles in pockets or bags.

Yep walking around in a coat with pockets for all my bits in this weather is too much and Bella knows when I reach in my pocket for clicker and treat what's occurring ;D I once just took a sandwich bag full of cheese as it was too warm - ha totally obvious she didn't leave my side once ... ;)

We have this one, and carry everything in it. I has a useful side pouch inside where I have the jackpot treats. Washes well too :)
