So......I was thinking about this yesterday...from a dogs perspective (My little choccy Monkey is almost 7 months) a trip to Pets at Home must be heaven to them!!!!! I take Bentley in from time to time if we are popping in for something. Although what should take 5 minutues usually takes a lot longer with everyone stopping for a cuddle and him hoovering the floor to see if there any "leftovers" that have dropped onto the floor. I took Bentley in yesterday as needed to pick up afew bits and it seems he does not want to go anywhere near the Fish area......we were having a little wander around and ventured over to the Fish area and he completely froze the poor litltle thing...something must have scared him. I tried to reassure him that it was Ok and nothing to be scared of but he was petrified....the poor fella just lay down and refused to go anywhere near them. Strange as nobody else about, but he had obviously clocked something that he didnt like!!! Anyway, apart from the Fish area, I think its his most favourite place (that and the Muddy fields/park of course!!!!)

Poor little love, they can be so easily spooked though , but its a really good exercise in socialisation , so maybe try again in a few days time ?

I dont use PAH very much, but recently went in on a collar hunt , Sam was highly interested in all the balls in a big basket, but ignored the small animals . Millie ( terrier type ) was the oposite , dragging on her lead towards the small furry creatures , time to leave ::)

it may have been the noise of the water pumps

yes it may well have been the pumps, bless him. We got halfway round and I realised he had found a toy and was holding it in his mouth...good job I noticed it before we left ;-)

Charlie adores Pets at Home (I'm not a huge fan, myself, as I think online suppliers are better and cheaper). It was just the BEST place to take him as a puppy though. Parents with young children would come up to me and ask if their kids could stroke Charlie. We could meet 10 strangers in a visit. We still go, it's still good for him to meet people. He is pretty uninterested by the small furry animals, and like Sam prefers the toy section.

I agree though, the dog snatching things can lead to unexpected purchases. Charlie is absolutely terrible for snatching rice chews off the bottom shelf and eating all the evidence.

I think they love it when dogs shoplift because then you have to pay for what your dog has nicked :) Where we go they have big wire baskets of pig's ears and the like right near the counter. Like lollies at the supermarket checkout... Always a hazard!!

Sounds like Bentley was a good boy (even if the fish or their accessories were scary) :)

Well I took Benson in there today..my 17 week old chocolate lab and tbh he turned into a little monster! First of all got stuck under one of the deep shelves where the big sacks of dog food where....dived at a large basket thing of pigs ears, hurled himself at the rabbits..behind glass and made a little girl cry...got into a frenzy over the rubber chickens....then shot into a low basket full of tennis balls...phew... ::)

Ha ha ha - sounds like Benson had a ball!

It gets easier once you've had a few goes, but it's a super exciting place, for sure!

He certainly did Julie! ;D He adores people and is fascinated by little ones.. and being half-term there were lots of those! On our walks here it is mostly quiet footpaths through fields so we don't bump into many peeps ;D
Think I must have broken some sort of record on how many rubber chickens one can pick up in 20 seconds! (not ncluding the rubber pigs... 8))

My local PAH was just fantastic for meeting kids, we met loads and loads there. It was also where we did our first walking nicely passed dogs - aisles are amazing tools for getting distance and separation. Gosh, PAH should have charged me!

Was it originally armless? Or is that why you had to take him home? ;D ;D ;D

The said squeaky monkey you guessed it..originally had arms...until Benson found it...I did have a moment...whilst holding the detached arms of just walking out... ::)
