Dodge is my 8 month old chocolate lab pup and I believe he has separation anxiety. He is crated while I’m at work or any time I or someone is not home. But when I’m not home he cries and barks in his crate. He has been crate trained since he was 8 weeks old. I wanted to prevent separation anxiety but it just gets worse. When I’m home he acts out and doesn’t listen. We spend lots of time together and he gets plenty of exercise. This last week I haven’t been able to sleep he will cry or just bark sitting on the ground in front of my face. I don’t know what to do. He is also mentally excercused daily.

I think we need more information to be able to help:

How long are you at work for, what hours?

    What is your daily routine?

When is he exercised or trained and what types of activities do you do?

Who else lives in the house?

Can I add to Jo's the request for additional information?

When does he start barking? Right after you leave or several hours afterwards? Do you leave food-filled Kongs in the crate, when you leave?

What mental exercises do you do with him?
