Good advice. OH and I knew that it was time to move on when we felt able to smile whenever we thought of Cocoa. Until then we just felt the loss.

My hubby and I have decided we want to get another pup.

We have discussed and cried and fallen out over the last couple of weeks but we have come to the conclusion that this is the only way to start to heal the wounds
and the gaping hole that our beloved Fern left. We had to make a decision
as the pups were born a couple of weeks ago and were nearly all sold! So we
have about another 6 weeks to get our heads fully round it, but we are now sure this is the right thing to do.

As has been said on here, we are all different in how we cope. I have never seen my husband so sad for so long, and I'm now looking forward to seeing him properly smile again.

Again, thanks for all your help and advice and support and I will report back when the little lady arrives. Xx

It's good to hear that you have both come to a decision on this.

You just can't know what you want to do or what is right for you until something like this happens.... Before we lost our first dog Nicolae I would've said that we would maybe not have even got another dog at all... But when we lost him I wanted another dog right away. Not to replace him, but to replace the Labrador shaped hole.... We got Obi within 2 weeks and we are both really glad that we did. We never stopped missing our Nicolae (I miss him every day and will all my life) but we love Obi to bits and he really helped us cope. He is very special in his own unique way and your new little lady will be too.

Aw, can't wait to "meet" your new little lady. I hope you can look forward to her arrival with lots of excitement. What colour is she? Do you have a name yet?

I hope a new puppy makes you smile, and brings some joy back into your home - they are good at that. :)

My Dad describes people who don't have Labradors as "sadly being Labless".

Being in a state of Lablessness. The saddest thing in the world.

It sounds as if the timing of the new litter is just right and you both have much to look forward to with your new puppy.

Hi, I lost my beautiful Beattie in September, she was 14, I know how you feel. At the end of December we picked up Rubie, she is now 16 weeks. This little rascal makes my Beattie seem like a 'saint', of course she wasn't, but you do forget what hard work a young puppy is, after having an older dog. You will have the advantage of having your new friend in the spring which will make toilet training far more pleasant than the depths of winter. Rubie has certainly helped me to move forward, but Beattie is always at our side. Oh and this forum is invaluable.

Is the new pup a boy or a girl? Colour? Do we have a name yet? Looking forward to some lovely puppy photos very soon. :)
