So lovely. Hard things are worth so much more in the end because they are hard. You are doing a wonderful thing for these dogs and for their eventual owners, bless you!!
Little Twiglet had her spay yesterday. She was very snoozy indeed last night, but otherwise fine. She has the tiniest scar and hasn't bothered with it at all - so no cone needed, hurrah! She's back to her bouncy self today so it's a job keeping her calm! Lots of Kongs and puzzle toys. Tatze has gone to stay with her bestest friend, Zaba, while Twiglet recovers. I'm glad it's over and done with, I hate taking them in then waiting, waiting. Snoozy girl last night - Just now -
She is such a little darling. Good to hear that she's not been bothered by the spay and is feeling fine. Totally agree about how hard it is to leave them at the vets. It's the sitting waiting for the call that all is well that is so hard.
Oh it's an awful wait isn't it! Then the wait after you've had a call to say it's done but you can't pick them up for a few hours. I think I even said to the OH at one point "maybe they'll let me go in and just sit there next to her while she recovers so she knows she's not alone"! Glad Twiglet is recovering quickly and good luck keeping her quiet this week! ☺
Mabel was the same, I'm always so impressed by how quickly they bounce back. Santa will have to bring her a new tug toy
Just over a week after Twiglet's spay and you can hardly see the scar. One plus about having it done at 6 months is that it's a far smaller, less intrusive, operation. Twiglet is part of a large, wide ranging and lifelong scientific research trial - to find out what is the best time to spay. Twiglet (and Gypsy's) group have been done at 6 months. The control group are being done at the usual time - after their first season. Guide Dogs are in a unique position to be able to follow them closely all their lives from birth. My only problem is keeping her calm - no free runs until Friday!!
She certainly has healed well, no wonder she's so full of energy. Still not long to go before she can be off lead again.
Glad it's healed up so nicely Someone is going to have so much fun playing with that dataset... Such a worthwhile piece of research and a proper experimental design too (ie with a control group and a treatment group). Pity there can't be a 'no neuter' group for comparison as well but obviously that's not possible for Guide Dogs...
