Had a good episode this morning. The savvy cat I see quite often in the mornings was sitting in an unusual place, so I didn't see him in time to put Shadow on his lead. Willow, as normal, took one look and ignored him, but as Shadow went past (happily oblivious), shock, horror, the cat yowled at him. He turned, looked, I called him and he came trotting back to me, looking over his shoulder as he came, but still, straight to me. The cat then bolted just as he got to me, but he didn't show any interest in chasing. I can't say this was anything to do with any training, because it's all too soon, but at least there was no self-rewarding through a chase. As a counter-point, however, they saw their first ever deer last night when I was walking them (I've seen deer on walks with them before, but they've never noticed them). Again, Willow showed no more than a passing interest, but Shadow was frantic to get to it. Luckily, they were both on lead at the time because I was doing some training with them. I'll have to watch this for the next month especially, because it's hunting season, which makes the deer come close to the village and onto my nearby walks. Not stupid creatures, they seem to somehow know that the hunters aren't allowed near the village!
