Yes, you'd need to know if he was carrying Chocolate. If they know he's EE they'd know about the Black/Choc side of things too, I expect.

If Poppy has no Choc in her ancestry then it's unlikely she's carrying it. And if the sire isn't carrying it then there is no chance of Choc puppies even if Poppy was herself Choc.

It's very exciting that you are thinking of all this, Karen :) Imagine how deliriously crazy we'll all go if Head Girl has puppies!!!!! You will be harangued mercilessly for photos ;)

Barney is BBEE, so no choccies if we go with him.

Oh you lot... I can see huge fun and games ahead!!!!

Just a heads up - in Germany the tradition is that the first litter of pups in a kennel have names beginning with 'A'. So Agamemnon is in with a chance!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Could be called Aga for short. ;)

We had thought we'd take a red-gold girl if possible, and call her Alba (means 'dawn' in Italian). But that may not be the right name if we go with all-black pups...

    Nothing like planning ahead, right???

Oh, this is so exciting! Waiting to collect a puppy from a breeder is exciting enough (and for me, helping with the birth of mine was amazing), but to go through the whole process from picking a sire and everything else from there is just .... well, I think I'd spontaneously combust from excitement if it was me, and will be close enough to that just following your story!!

I had the job of opening all the sacs because the bitch didn't "get it" and tried to eat the first two pups (including little Shadow, who came out second) so we ended up taking them away as they came out, getting them out of the sacs, and then giving them back to Mum. Shadow was breach, and then we had another who wouldn't feed, so I spent ages trying to get it to latch on and stay awake - breaking more sacs in the meantime as others came out. But in the end, after six and a half hours, we had eight healthy puppies who all survived. I was super proud of myself :)

Here's me with a newborn Shadow (no, I'm honestly not naked!:(

It's such an amazing experience - although somewhat fraught! You're going to have a blast!!!

First time she comes into season next year. :D

But first - she's going to the animal eye clinic week after next for the eye tests. If those are clear, then we'll move on to the next hurdle.

Agamemnon and Ariadne - I see a Greek mythology theme coming along here! ;D

Then we have to have an Artemis, too...

Well, that's settled then!! All we need now is a kennel name. :)
