We've owned several male labs in the past. Our new puppy, who was the runt, is 6 months old and is much less boisterous than the lab pups we're used too. He's sweet as can be, but seems to prefer just to sit and cuddle in your lap. Rarely opens his mouth. Seems very alert and watches everything, but just doesn't seem to have the same desire to get into everything. Should we be worried, or counting our blessings?

Absolutely, just enjoy. My girl's male pup (now approaching 12 months old) is a very chill dog. Still very much a puppy but not a rampaging whirlwind, which is just as well as he's a BIG boy. However the female pup from the same litter (so I hear, I haven't seen her) is totally hyper to the extent that the owner has called in a professional trainer to manage her. Odd how things work. Both sire and dam are very laid back.
