    Hi All

Noticed red circles on my boy's belly after a walk in the woods and playing in mud, sand and water.

I'm freaking out. I don't know what this is?

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

I would speak to a vet they can be of more help as it could be a few things. They also know what type of conditions are affecting dogs in your area

Could be insect bites. I had similar with my Labrador, but far more and very sore. Responded well to medication which I think might have been Piriton given by vet, can't remember!

Look more like bites than anything else but I would keep an eye on them and seek veterinary advice if worsening, not getting better, or causing itching.

Quinn has the same bite marks right now and we have determined it must be mosquito bites or fly bites...looked a bit like tick bites, but there is no tick. She is very itchy though. She has gotten them the last 3 times we have visited friends who live near a river and we all have lots of itchy bug bites, dogs and humans. Red circles on her belly have cleared after 2 days. I would check for ticks just to make sure.

Axel had this last summer. We thought maybe red ant bites. The vet thought reaction to weeds he came across out in the yard or hiking trails. Not sure but once fall/winter came they went away, but so did the weeds and ants and other bugs ... so sadly we aren't sure

Midges by water leave this sort of bite. I avoid going to the river at either end of the day because of them. They really attack Willow, who is black, barely touch Shadow (yellow) and go somewhat for Luna (choc). It seems the darker the coat, the more attractive the dogs are to them. I bought some spray (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Doghealth-Dynamite-insect-repellent-250ml/dp/B003UYXE7E) to deter them, and it does work but isn't 100%. It would probably be washed off in the water, though.

I'd discuss with your vet what sort of diseases may be transmitted by this sort of fly in your area.
