New puppy coming to end of first week She’s happy going into crate starting to try and leave her for very short periods with frozen kong when I open crate do I leave the kong - she’s bringing it out with her ...
I’d suggest only letting her have the Kong in the crate. That keeps it a positive association with the crate. I fed my pup all of his meals in the crate for the first few weeks, saying the command “Crate!” when I put the bowl in. He’s seven months old now, and no matter where he is when I say “crate”, he comes running! If I’m closing him in his crate while I’m gone, I also put a Kong with some treats in there too.
Thanks that’s helpful. I’m trying to build up leaving her with door shut and kong. Managed 10 mins which was huge, as without it we only manage a couple of minutes until she realises I’m gone. How often did you put your boy in his crate with his Kong throughout the day?
Helps to exercise puppy before putting in crate too. Add the kong and quickly he will fall asleep. I also leave classic music on. I quickly could leave my puppy a couple 1-2 hours in the crate. Particularly with puppies it is an easy way to teach them yo settle after they had some activity. My girl is 13 months old and still likes the crate to retreat and during night I too feed her in crate for first few months for reasons mentioned
