HELP!! We picked up our Puppy at 8 weeks, she had her first injection at 7 weeks and 4 days and this was Vanguard. 2nd injection last Thursday and our vet used Nobivac. Our Vet said it wasn't an issue but our breeders vet, and lots of online research - suggests differently. I don't know who to believe has anyone else experienced this?
Re: Vaccination Confusion.... Yep. I am not sure which brands were involved, but we didn't pick up our pup until she was 11 weeks and our breeder kindly got her first dose. Unfortunately their vet used a different brand to ours, so when we went to our own vets we needed to have two more before we got out and about. We missed a fair bit of socialisation as a result. The other issue you might need to consider is at what age should the pups get their first vaccination. If they are too young they don't work so well. I thought they usually started at 8 weeks but I guess 7 weeks and 4 days isn't far off. Guide dog puppies have 3 vaccinations as a routine, so I wouldn't worry if she needs 3 at the end of the day. Generally I would be guided by your vet, but if you are unsure it might be worth getting a second vet opinion.
Re: Vaccination Confusion.... I have had cases at the kennels I worked at where the dog had a first vaccination with us, got adopted out and the new owners vet wouldn't do the second vax because it was a different brand. I think it's quite common that a lot of vets don't like to mix the brands.
Re: Vaccination Confusion.... Lochan previously gave this advice in a similar thread...... http://www.thelabradorforum.com/index.php?topic=6382.msg84677#msg84677 Worth a little look - helps explain a little bit.
Re: Vaccination Confusion.... Interesting read, thank you. I've spoken to our vets again and they are adamant that the two she has had are fine and at the right time. Might ring round for a few more vet opinions.
