Most of the money raised from the training nights i go to gets donated back to animal charities, not just dogs but any charity that helps animals big or small. One of the charities Second Chances a German Shepherd Rescue offered to come do a talk about what they did so the Trainers arranged to have the man come down and hold a talk at the local Canine an Equine Physiotherapy Centre so we could hear about them also. It was a great night, so informative. The man from Second Chances was interesting explaining where the £500 donation would be used.. most of their donations they receive goes on vet bills, he said last year that equated to nearly £20,000 so any donation was extremely welcome. We heard what happened when a dog was brought to them right through to when they were being adopted, happy and sad stories but all in the best interest of the dog. He also brought his own rescue dog who was adorable along with a little Heinz mix that he'd found near a motorway 2 weeks prior, the two dogs were off lead and so well behaved. Then we got showed round the physiotherapy centre and saw a spaniel exercising in the hydro pool, the physiotherapist explained the aims and benefits to the animals using the pool. They also had a spa bath and a water treadmill. She had her little sausage dog with her that has back end problems, she could hardly use her back legs when she rescued her. She showed how using the water treadmill had helped her gain strength in her legs and now she was mobile short distances. This giving her loads of confidence, she is now a Diva to the physio's other 8 rescue dogs It was a really interesting night and what was meant to be a couple of hours ended up finishing at nearly 10pm. The training club also put on a huge buffet that would have fed a wedding party bang went the diet!
That sounds really interesting Elizabeth, thanks for sharing It is so good to find out first hand when donated money goes , glad you enjoyed the buffet , start the diet tomorrow
What a fantastic amount of money for a donation and it sounds as if you had a really good evening hearing how that money is used, plus learning much more about the Physiotherapy Centre. Buffets are designed to break the best diet, but there's always tomorrow and a good dog walk to compensate
