That's not the name of my lovely labXcollie puppy but the month when I'll first meet her. Dilly was born 28th March in County Clare - My daughter's dog, Nancy, produced a beautiful litter and I couldn't resist! So Dilly is now fostered with my other daughter and has joined a household which includes a wonderful 'aunt' Ruby and a rather aloof cat, Doogle. Sadly, I can't fetch her before then because I have to make arrangements for the care of my husband but I'm making the most of the wait to remind myself about puppy care, training etc. because it's almost 35 years since I last had a dog. This Forum and the website are such a great find for me and I hope to learn and achieve as much as possible with my lovely new friend.
Thanks edzbird! Yes, I’ve been looking through the posts a bit and have marvelled at all the wisdom and experience shared here. My first challenge will be planning and equipping myself for the journey to bring her home... a long drive from west to north-east of Ireland, a ferry, a night in a hotel with her and then another drive from south-west Scotland to north-east England. At least she’ll be 5 months old by then so not quite the challenges of being an under-3mth old. I intend to search the forum for puppy/young dog travel tips... so if anyone has any, or knows which threads to go for, I’d be grateful!
Welcome. If you husband is unwell and needs care, a dog will be very cheering for you. By the time you have Dilly, the worst of puppyhood will nearly be over. Great news.
Welcome to the forum, and how exciting for you to be getting a puppy after all this time, and especially keeping it all in the family. I think it's a good idea to stick around on the forum to be learning as much as you can.
Thanks Stacia - Yes, you’re absolutely right that the friendly young face will be a very heartening thing when the chips are down. I’m pretty sure it’ll be good for my OH as well; animals have always been drawn to him and I’m sure she’ll be no exception. I see you live in Malvern... I spent 3 years nearby in Malvern Wells at a now-defunct boarding school in the early 60’s. Sweet (and not-so-sweet) memories!
And on her way to her foster home... sadly the nice white blouse didn’t stay that way as nausea got the better of her!
She looks absolutely adorable. I wonder what boarding school that was, trying to rack my memory, I remember the boys' Wells House, think yours might have been near the bus terminus? I went to boarding school when 7 years old and loathed every second, I planned to get expelled!
Welcome from me, Hattie 10 years and our rescue boy Charlie 7 years. What an absolutely beautiful little puppy, I wish you lots of happiness and fun with Dilly Lots of support on this forum so ask anything you need to know xxx
The Abbey, Malvern Wells... the buildings and land were later used by an international college and the remaining girls were taken into St James’s, to the great disgust of many Abbey old girls! I loathed quite a lot of it but there were fun times too (not generally during the winter though, when it was SO cold. Chilblains from hogging one of the few radiators is still a vivid memory!)
@Dill, yes it was the place I thought it was, but had forgotten the name. One of the girls from the international college walked straight in front of my car and I knocked her over, horrible experience, fortunately I had a witness. Being foreign she hadn't looked to the right as she crossed!
Thanks Joy - you’re absolutely right... the rest of the summer is as nothing compared to the excitement of the first week of Sept. Mind you, so far the summer has hardly got cracking up here on the north-east coast... bracing rather than balmy!
