What about these beauties? http://www.flickr.com/photos/97066992@N03/11960769035/ Perfect for you and the rest of the 'Chocolate Gang'!
I was going to ask how you came across these, Angela, but I think I could be scared of the answer... Hilarious. Clare
Re: Water treadmill
All dried off. Full of kibble and sea biscuit treats from being good chasing the tennis ball. And now the very, very, best bit: post watwr treadmill by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr
That is THE BEST photo!!! So pleased it went well.
Re: Water treadmill Those shoes ;D What a great idea to have Charlie do his initial post-op recuperation at the spa. Hope the insurance company comes to the party
Re: Water treadmill Just love this photo, one completely relaxed and shattered boy , so pleased to read this Julie ;D
Re: Water treadmill I just took him for his mid-day walk (the dog walker did early morning today). And he was NORMAL. That is, he hadn't suddenly transformed into an obedience champion or anything like that, but he was a normal, 10 months old labrador, who had a basic level of training - ie his normal self. I had to keep checking the lead hadn't fallen off... Phew. Thank goodness. Right, just got to find a way to get to water treadmill three times a week, and I reckon we can live through this....
Re: Water treadmill And no limping! Popped down to the vet to get more ear drops and we trotted down the road like the good old days. He still did one small pull to stick his head into the doorway of the fish and chip shop, but hey...there was a chip on the floor once, so you can't really blame him for trying. Still 28.5kgs. More treadmill tomorrow - the vet says "he'll be ironman" by the time we get to the op. ;D ;D ;D
Re: Water treadmill Bless him Any chance of getting some pictures of Charlie on the treadmill Julie? x
Re: Water treadmill
Bless him Any chance of getting some pictures of Charlie on the treadmill Julie? x
Hope so - I'm going to take my Christmas pressie video camera tomorrow!
Re: Water treadmill Wow, great news, Julie!! So glad it went well. I agree with the spa weekend for Charlie and the get-away for you and you OH. You deserve it!
Re: Water treadmill WITH PICTURES! I couldn't do the video - I was too busy. I've got a very important job holding the tennis ball, don't you know? These aren't very good, sorry - just taken on my phone. Hopefully you get the idea though. So here we are, all kitted up and ready to go: all kitted up and in the cabinet by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr The cabinet fills with water... filling up with water by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr If I squish my nose really, really, hard against the glass, can I get the tennis ball? Blonde Chocolate! if I squish my nose hard against the glass can I get the tennis ball by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Ready, steady.... ready to chase that tennis ball by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Go! Get that ball! gallop for that ball by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Have a break, and a play: having a break and a play by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Go again. Now we are really motoring... motoring along now by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr Big problem! Oh no! Charlie is wagging his tail so hard across the therapist's face it hurts! ;D ;D ;D Charlie whacks the hydro expert across the face with his tail by JulieTandCharlie, on Flickr
Re: Water treadmill These are fabulous pics... love Charlie and his squashed little nose! It's certainly a labour intensive experience - 4 of you to get him going. I'm sure Charlie appreciates just how lucky he is. Let's hope he doesn't also realise how blond he is too ;D ;D Clare
Re: Water treadmill It is labour intensive - but it won't always be. One of the people holding Charlie did the first session with him, and is discussing with the second therapist the best way to control his injured leg. The other person takes notes of the water levels and speed and time etc. While they are not doing those things, they are stopping Charlie running faster than the treadmill. But once he is into a routine, and knows what to do, I think we can manage with 2 people - we can always put the tennis ball on a bit of string!
Re: Water treadmill I think the standard of care is truly impressive... and that Charlie is very lucky to have you making all this happen for him. Yes, I'm sure that once he is used to the routine, it will get much easier. He is obviously loving the chance to get moving. Remember the days when injuries (human and canine!) were treated with a bit of elastic bandage and ibuprofen??! Clare
Re: Water treadmill It is a truly, truly impressive place. To be honest, I feel lucky being close to it - well, close enough to manage anyway. I looked at other places, and none came close to the level of expertise of this place. They had a dog there this morning with three legs, who had ruptured his cruciate ligament on his one remaining back leg. The delight on that dog's face when he got to do some water exercise...they are managing him successfully (surgery is impossible). So, as an added bonus, Charlie and I get to realise that there are dogs and owners worse off than us.
Re: Water treadmill I know I`m feeling more than a little emotional at the moment, but those actually made me cry , bless him , Charlie is being a star
Re: Water treadmill
Charlie is being a star
He is, through all this he is still as sweet natured as they come. But, also, thank goodness for the fetching the ball obsession though! It's been a life saving control mechanism on more than one occasion, but this takes the biscuit I think.
Re: Water treadmill Love his squished nose and WTD - weapon of therapist destruction also known as a happy labs tail ;D What lovely people and you're both doing wonderfully x btw Clare still true in our house mostly specially for the humans, the dog gets much better care!
