Yesterday was our first serious day of recall training with Bailey and Joseph, and I have to say we got off to a good start. I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but I'm doing it with both of them together. Bailey is much better at coming back, especially when rewards are involved...he is back in front of me in a flash, sitting and looking like a saint. I've noticed that Bailey does look around for we whilst playing and running. Joseph, however, is a different kettle of fish! However, last night Joseph did return to me several times, paw waving for his reward. I also noticed that on several occasions, he would follow Bailey and return to me, when calling them both. We had a lovely long walk, and all was going well until we almost got to the point of getting the leads on, and Joseph spotted a cyclist! All I could see was the tips of two tails and flying ears rapidly disappearing. As I panted my way up to the top of the road, a lady stopped me and asked me if I had lost two dogs and that 'they are having great fun just around the corner'! As I turned the corner, there were two dogs bounding before me at great speed, skidding to a halt and holding their paws up for their rewards. All I can say...it was lead walking until we got safely home, and that they slept like logs after their tea ;D ;D but then again, so did I
Re: We have started recall training Not an easy job that you have there, with your gang of three! RESPECT, is all I can say!!! ;D
Re: We have started recall training And respect from me too Must be hard coping with them together, but well done to you for the effort
Re: We have started recall training Hi Katie, same here, I have a rescue dog myself and know how hard it is. You are doing a great job, well done. Helen xx
Re: We have started recall training Hello everyone Thank you for your lovely replies. They do look sweet when they hold their paws up, and the trouble is I can't get cross with them! They are little monkeys but I wouldn't swap them for the winning lottery numbers. So far Bailey has put paid to...two new sofa cushions, a pillow, a corner of my goose feather duvet (feathers everywhere!), my best jacket, two pairs of slippers, a leather storage box, three plastic bowls, a carved wooden cat, and...a bowl of sweets complete with wrappers! Not bad in three weeks. Joseph has had two pairs of slippers, my friend's lunch when he wasn't looking, and hides my shoes everywhere. I currently have three pairs of shoes left in their pairs, and at least eight pairs on the missing list! I've now got shoes put in all sorts of places, just so I know I've got something to wear to work...and I used to be colour co-ordinated with my shoes, but I think those days may have just gone ;D. I've also given up on slippers too ;D I'm going to get them each a large kong and see if this helps. No matter what, I just love my dogs and can forgive them anything!
Re: We have started recall training Katie, Kongs are definitely cheaper than shoes ;D ;D Charlie ate 3 pairs of David's Timberlands but thankfully he seems to have grown out of that phase ;D Helen xx
Re: We have started recall training Hello Helen and Jacqui Our home is definitely a fun madhouse! Three pairs of Timberlands...oh my word, Charlie has good but expensive taste! I braced myself tonight as I got to the front door, to see what modifications had been made today. I was amazed...nothing touched! Long may it last.
