I'm pretty sure this has been asked recently but I was probably feeling to smug to read it! Molly is 14 weeks and up until last week I'd assumed she was toilet trained, asking to go out, going through the night etc. But now she's weeing indoors again and often when the back door is open or she's just been out. Any tips appreciated!

Hi there, this is a common problem at around four months - have a look at number #13 in this article . Hope you find it helpful

    Hi Cherry,

Ah yes, premature house-training smugness, I remember it well ;)

I think 14 weeks would be very early for Molly to be fully and reliably house-trained. I'd go back to being extra vigilant, expecting her to need to go every 20 minutes or so, after eating/drinking/ when first waking, after playing etc, and taking her out to go at those times. Praise her when she does go. If possible I'd leave the door closed rather than leaving it open (which can encourage us humans to neglect our duties thinking that the pup will automatically go outside because the door is open) and watch for her approaching the door.

Remember to thoroughly clean up any accidents too as any lingering smell may encourage a repeat performance in the same location.

    Good luck.

Can take up to six months just depends on how smart the dog is and how much freedom they have in the house.

Hi @Cherry, I'm with Uncle Bob. Back to basics approach and you'll find that in a matter of days that you're back to a pretty reliable toilet trained puppy, but expect a few accidents, Molly is still a baby and learning - rather like a toddler being potty trained. You think you've cracked it and then they're busy playing and forget all about the body signals until it's too late. I wouldn't leave the door open either and trust that she does a wee when outside, I found it best to take Juno out regularly so that I knew she had been, particularly if I had to go out and she had to go in her crate.
