whilst out on our walk today did some on lead heel work 6 out of 10 ;)
off lead training our recall, 10 out of 10, no other dogs about :)
did some basic retrieves nothing professional just throw and fetch, novice work 6 out of 10,
sit and wait 8 out of 10 :)
then jasper decided he wanted a good roll in something i thought oh the dreaded fox poo, on my closer inspection it was a dead rat  i call jasper away from the rat, oh he did respond to me, coming towards me with the dead rat in his mouth , i felt sick, give him the command to leave it, surprise surprise a big 10 out of 10 as he dropped it straight away, i was well pleased, wish he dropped the tea towels on my first leave it command :)
all in all training is going very well :)

never thought i would ever say i love bad weather :)
not another dog in sight ;D

    Interesting.....
How did the dead rat rate in the pungency stakes? We haven't experienced that one ;D

Well done by the way - sounds like a first-rate Leave ;)

Oh Lynne,I've laughed...sorry x great leave it for sure but what a way to practice it ??? Yuck!
Dexter brought a dead sparrow back yesterday from one of his adventures 'over the wall' we did not have a good leave it! :(
Ride the tea towel experience out,Dexter used to make me crazy now he doesn't even bother....I only just commented on that to Chris the other day x

Well done Jasper, especially re dropping the rat, how gross that would have been if he hadnt

Sam did a simliar thing at the woods once, he found a manky horrible half decomposed bird which he picked up and brought to me , I scrubbed my hands raw in dettol back home ::) ::)

Jasper is coming along so well Lynne , Millie runs to other dogs too, she does turn and come back but am having trouble actually stopping the run , its just practice practice I guess , good boy Jasper :)

Oh the dead stuff they find

Good work on getting him to relinquish the rat. Always good to be spared the dilemma of 'do I try to wrestle it out of his mouth or do I just give up and let him eat it?'. Gross.

Good boy Jasper. Better than Poppy who caught a mouse and swallowed it whole recently. I tried to grab the tail as it disappeared down her throat, but too late...

karen i think i would have had an heart attack :)

what a brilliant day i have had out on our walk :) BUZZING ;D today i tried something very different than our normal walks, took jasper on the large field did some training, recalls, ect,.no other dogs out,....i then decided i would take a gamble and take him along the public footpath in the woods, off lead, within five minuets along came another dog off lead, they was walking in the opposite direction to us, so as they was passing both dogs said hello to each other, after a couple of minuets i started to walk off i blew my whistle and yes yes yes my little star was at the side of me, ;D
100 yards down the road was an old guy with his dog, walking in the same direction, again both dogs off lead,we walked together for 200 yards both dogs playing happy, there was a path leading in another direction so i started walking a couple of steps onto the path, blew my whistle and yes he was at the side of me again.....met someone else and tried this again, wow 3 out of 3 recalls from other dogs ........when i have been saying i cant recall him from another dog, we have been on a large field jasper as been legging it to the other side of the field to get to the dog, :)
going to try this again tomorrow, :)
the best walk i have ever been on, normally when i see a dog off lead i distract jasper and put him on the lead, today instead of calling him from the other side of a large field i have been calling him from a matter of feet :)
i think i have finally trained myself :)
jaspers training was there all the time, it was ME who needed the training :)

    Re: well pleased with training

jac i am praying this is our new beginning, i have put my 100% into training,i have never dropped my guard :)
without pippas total recall book i would not of had a clue :)
i have got to admit i struggled with recalling from other dogs, that was me not jasper,my new found confidence as brought me to an whole new level :)
i honestly cant start to describe how i am feeling today ;D ;D ;D
with lacking in confidence and having a massive fear of dogs i was going about it the wrong way, :)
i have got to pinch my self and remember this as all happened in 8 month :)
a big thank you to everyone on the forum that as supported me along the way :)

Fantastic Lynne and good boy Jasper :)

So not recalling him away from dogs in a large open space was the key, keeping it simple on a track when Jasper was close. Great work. :)

That sounds wonderful Lynne...sounds like you've found the intermediate steps between your previous successful recalls and the wide open field which was still a little too hard :) brilliant!
