Riley is lame this afternoon Will rest him today and tomorrow and see how we go.........he's walking ok but as soon as he hits a trot he's limping. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Oh no! Not Riley as well! Hope a couple of days rest will sort it out.
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Hugs to Riley - hope it's nothing and he picks up tomorrow. Let us know. Bloomin' worrying all these leg troubles.
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Okay, everyone, stop it!! No more lameness!! Hope Riley is better after a rest.
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded How can lameness be this contagious!!! :-[ :-[ Hope it's a short lived bout. Clare
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Thanks all I'm putting him under house arrest tomorrow and then we'll call the vet if there's no improvement by Saturday. Shame as I had the chance to do some desensitisation to shot with our trainer on Saturday afternoon.
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Poor Riley...hope its just a wee blip and he is back on form soon
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Poor lad , I hate to think of any of them hurting , get well soon Riley
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Oh no! So hoping this settles quickly with a bit of rest. I feel your pain and Tarka certainly feels Riley' s!
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded How is Tarka doing? Coping ok with the horrible rest? Did she take a ride in the tugalong?
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded I'm sorry about Riley,Barbara, hope he is seeming better today?is the cold a factor do you think...seems there is such a lot of these injuries at the moment......lLike Lisa says no more now folks! X
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Don't want to hijack Riley's thread, but we might as well have all lame and wounded news in the same place now. Since there is so much of it! We were wondering about the cold too. Charlie sleeps at the back of the house, in a sort of garden room off the kitchen. It's mainly glass and not at all warm (he has a big Orvis bed and recently an electric radiator on all night outside his pen). But last night, OH decided that the cold might be a factor in Charlie's leg being stiff in the morning - and moved his bed upstairs, much to Charlie's delight. This isn't going to be a long term solution so I'm off to order another bed that will fit in the hallway downstairs for Charlie's winter quarters in London. I really don't want Charlie sleeping in the bedroom, not least because I think that he now spends so little time alone (with Grandad dog sitting services) I don't want him getting used to having attention 24/7. Anyway, his leg was still stiff this morning, perhaps even worse than yesterday. I upped his exercise yesterday by 5 minutes off lead and an extra 15 minutes on lead as per vet instructions. Darn it. He is booked in for an hour's physio assessment followed by hydrotherapy next Tuesday - and they have the facilities to film how he is moving and play it back in slow motion. I hope that will throw some light on things. They say they expect they can more accurately pin point what muscle or joint is hurting and devise an series of exercises etc. Here's hoping we make some progress with that.
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded popped to the vets today as I found some pad damage that wasn't obvious in the low light I checked Riley in yesterday thoughts were.......hibiscrub for his pads, some metacam for his discomfort and a week of rest/gentle exercise the vet had a good poke and manipulate of Rileys front legs but Riley was very stoical and he didn't even twitch so no obvious pain to work with hopefully a week off will sort him out and we can get back to normal
Re: We've joined the ranks of the lame and wounded Tarka is still lame poor thing but much less than she was before the resting. And her resting is really, really strict - at least in theory - supposed to be confined to the kitchen then out in the garden on lead for a wee and back, no games with Lochie at all. Anyway, she has been out and about with me for about an hour and a half a day at heel on lead and harness with no walking up and down hills. Carrying her is easier than than dragging the bike tugalong over the gate and down the hill, and she point blank refuses to ride in a wheelbarrow. She only actually walks for about 20 minutes of this hour and a half. We do some careful swimming in the river in the area where there is easy shelving access, and a fair amount of time doing steadiness to fall exercises with Lochie. Again, concentrating on steadiness exercises where she cannot run in and retrieve has improved this a lot, and her heel work is really sharp now. We have also been doing a fair amount of "honouring" retrieves where a dummy is thrown and i select which dog goes and gets it. Sadly for Tarka she does all the honouring at the moment - note to self to stop this before Lochie gets too used to it always being her turn to retrieve. Anyway, we have gone from 8/10 lame to 2/10 lame over the last couple of weeks. Only a couple of months to go....
