Chepi has been on Eukenuber Puppy and Junior since she was tiny and she is now 14 months old. Although she can use the same food until 2 years old I am starting to think about switching to an adult food. Hence the question. She has always suffered a bit with loose stools so I want to see if anyone else had to overcome that also. My vet is not keen on using the additive to food that firms up stools so I would love to hear if anyone has had positive results with changing food. (I will occasionally give her a raw chicken wing but can't really see me going all out raw, being a vegetarian - yes I can cope with animal products in dry food though!).
I feed a mixture of raw and kibble. They were on Hills Science Plan for puppies, but I've been switching them over to Burns adult (lamb and rice). Since switching, their poo is amazing. There is hardly any of it and it's really firm. Before switching, they would probably have one or two a week that wasn't kickable. I put it down to the disgusting things they eat when out and about, but having seen such a marked change since switching, I now believe that some of it was caused by the Hills.
Burns here. Not sure it's all that important though, except to avoid the really cheap brands that have a lot of rubbish in them.
You get what you pay for with dog food I think, although entire generations of dogs have been brought up on food we now regard as rubbish! I think I would buy a smallish bag of one of the foods for sensitive stomachs to try Chepi on first
I think us humans tend to read something like Rice and Chicken on a bag of dog food and think that it is a meal prepared by Gordon Ramsey. The cynic in me says that the protein is almost certainly the scrag end of the animal and unfit for human consumption and that probably applies to dogs as well! The other consideration is that whenever you change a dog's diet it generally brings on a period of loose stools.
We use Millies Wolfheart too. They have a really good feeding guide so you can match the dogs activity to the type of food. We have have been fostering a very well built, slightly overweight, neutered 5 year old black lab here and by using Millies Wolfheart salmon and veg slightly lower amounts than recommended he has lost nearly 2kg in 4 weeks. Plus his coat is shiny, he is full of energy and yes has very kick able stools!

I just looked up the food I am giving Chepi (which I thought was good) and it scored terribly!!! Have ordered some sample packets from Millie's Wolfheart and hope to change soon but I am still open to comments about what you feed your dogs. I have a 15kg bag of the old food still - damn!
I am not a fan of dog food comparison sites I'm afraid - I think you have to look very carefully at whether you agree with how they rate the food, and you also have to look to see (as with all comparison sites for all products) who owns them, how they generate revenue and whether they sell foods and if so, if they receive commission (I see that site does have links through to both online and local stores) and whether this influences the rankings.
I just go for what suits my dogs , checking that there isn't rubbish in it, a good mid priced food . Sam seemed to have some problems with wheat and definitely has problems with too much fat , ours have Skinners duck and rice kibble . They do have other food alongside , raw turkey mince or raw fish , or tinned sardines . Both also love low fat cottage cheese as an addition to their kibble , not sure if they really need these additions but its horses for courses, what suits one may not suit another, its certainly a minefield .
We've had Holly on Skinners since she was a pup. It's what the breeder used and it seemed to suit her well enough so we kept it up. We used the puppy variety for a whole and now at 16 months she's on the adult and still doing well. However, she could be called Dyson as we've yet to see a food induced upset tum from her.
Molly's on James Wellbeloved adult duck and rice which seems to suit her - 2 firm poos a day and shiny coat. I feed much less than the packet suggests as I struggle to keep her trim.
Well I have tried a couple of samples from Millies Wolfheart which Chepi loves - just a bit cynical, hoping it's not laced with something! My dog training people haven't heard of it, nor has my vet but I have taken the plunge and ordered a big bag. So sorry that this must be a really boring thread for some people . I am still open to other suggestions; thanks for all of your suggestions so far.
