Fred has taught himself to undo Annie's crate when she barks. I wouldn't of believed it, if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes. The other day I put Annie in her crate and left Fred just in the kitchen with her. I went upstairs to make the beds etc and when I came down Annie was in asleep next to Fred. I thought I might not of shut the crate properly. While the OH and I were eating our lunch, I had put Annie in her crate so she wouldn't beg. She made a small bark, Fred got up from his bed went over to the crate and undid it with his mouth. I had to laugh, but what am I going to do.

Haha, clever boy!!!! That's what you call teamwork :D

I'd use a cable tie or twisted wire etc to secure it. But, before you try that, you need to video it!

What a great idea I have some twisted wire for gardening. Sorry I haven't go a video camera :( but I must say it was very funny. My OH said Fred didn't want her barking while he wanted a nap.

That is hysterical! Yes, videos please!

Maybe you wont need to use the crate at all, and she'll just settle down quietly with clever boy Fred...

We used to have a pony who did this - opened the gate with his teeth, to let himself and the other horses out! Very clever, and sneaky.

I don't put her in her crate very much now, because she is very good. The only thing is she can still get out of the cat flap and I don't want her out in the garden on her own. I might have to close the cat flap when we go shopping etc. and the cat will just have to wait in the greenhouse if he is not in.

Oh Fred, what a clever boy you are :D. If you think there is little risk of her getting into mischief with Fred in charge I think I would be tempted to close the cat flap as an experiment. If not I'd go with the garden tie, at least until Fred works out how to untie it ;);)

Have you seen the video about Stoffel, the escaping honey badger? Your story reminded me of it :)

Fred you clever boy. I once watched "secret life of dogs" where by the owners couldn't understand how there GSD got in the bedroom every night through a closed door. So they set up cameras. The dog watched the 4 year old child climb across the sofa to reach the latch of the door and open it. Guess what their dog copied. Just amazing. :D:D

Twiglet 'liberates' Tatze from time to time too!

(It doesn't matter for us as Tatze only has her crate because she chooses to :) )

Cable ties sound like the answer.

we used one of those elastic stretchy things you use on car roof racks. We had a couple of really short ones.
They are stretchy with a hook on either side - can't for the life of me think what they are called

Yes! - that's them, and yes they did work. I can't remember it happening often, but it did at least once when she was young and sneaky and not to be trusted!

    Umm...yes Mags.... :D

We have got some of them. I will try one next time I go shopping. If we are in Annie can stay out with Fred, it will save him getting up
