Re: What does your dogs name mean? We named Riley after Riley cars.....he was almost Bentley but we decided we weren't posh enough to own a Bentley My father-in-law has an old Riley, it's very pretty
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Well we named our little friend Odin after Odin the godfather in north mythology because i've always been fascinated by the old viking gods. We also thought a "royal" and "noble" name would fit our black male labrador. (We didn't know about the royal poo eating, fox poo rolling and other very very noble activities back then ;D ;D ;D ;D)
Re: What does your dogs name mean? We changed Millies name immediately , I also believe thats its a good move, sever the links with the past . Millie means Brave Strength , quite apt really Sam means God has heard We chose the name because it sounded sort of solid , like he was as a pup and even more now
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Poppy means.. Poppy. Common red flower. So called because of her red colouring, and because I thought it was a lovely name. Only afterwards did I find out that almost every female dog in the UK is called Poppy… : However, her pedigree name is (Kennel Name) Gold Medal, which is appropriate for my golden girl
Re: What does your dogs name mean? I agree with changing a rescue dogs name so leaving old times behind. We don't know what Charlie's original name was but the rescue centre called him Blacky, very original : We changed it on day one, I would have liked either Woody, Reggie or Hudson but I was out voted by my children who called him Charlie Little did we know that his name meaning "FREE MAN" would suit him perfectly when we found out he was a former absconder : Hattie means "RULER OF THE HOME" that would be correct too What an interesting topic xx
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Finley is "Fair Warrior". 8) Not thought about the meaning before renaming him from the very imaginative Choccy for Chocolate Button. : Not only should rescue dogs leave the old times behind them especially if they have had a troubled one, but a chance to change a crazy original name.
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Tarka got her name as she was black as tar and swims like an otter, but apparently Tarka means "wandering as water" - appropriate for a dog who used to abscond by swimming across the river.....Lochan means a little loch in gaelic. She was named as her parents were called after mountains on Skye - her mum was called Cuillin and there is a Lochan at the foot of the Cuillins on Skye.
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Harley means 'hare meadow'. Hubby decided on her name which is apt seeing as though she is a mummy's girl
Re: What does your dogs name mean?
Well, so glad you asked actually, as we deliberated long and hard before settling on Merla, which is Catalan for 'blackbird', a bit like the French 'Merle'. Suits her beautifully we think: What I never anticipated is people mis-hearing me, and referring to her as Merlot! I think I'll get a yellow lab and call her Chardonnay!!!
Don't tell Harv but his KC name is Zambuck Chardonnay! Harvey, it appears, means "battle worthy". Oh dear. :
Re: What does your dogs name mean? Lady is of course the term used for a woman of high social rank and is also a term that used to be used to refer to the mistress of the household. Both apply accurately to the Small Black Dog (currently with her nose stuck under the sofa after a hide bone). ;D Actually she's named after the Walt Disney character of the same name. It was my daughter's favorite cartoon and she always wanted a dog called Lady. The SBD kinda lives up to her name quite nicely I think.
Re: What does your dogs name mean? SBD is very definitely a Lady! Brew is BrewDog, after the Aberdeenshire brewery, although shortened to Brew... Theakston is also named after the beer, and is definitely Old Peculiar, although only a half pint in the brains department. Before that, we had Ruddles - see a pattern forming??! As a child, my pocket money was always linked to the price of a pint. Budget day was a good day in our house, because it meant our pocket money went up. ;D Brewery connections seemed like a good way to follow family traditions... : Clare
