Some of you may remember that about a year ago , a lovely man I used to often walk with at Golitha Falls lost his elderly Labrador . I was there when he took his very last walk , John used to love walking with us as he said Sam brought back so many happy memories of his dogs youth . That last walk was so very sad , we just wandered along in silence, no words needed , and I haven't seen John since that day , until today At Golitha, in the pouring rain , a voice called out " Is that Sam ? " I turned round and there was John with a beautiful little black fluffy terrier scampering around his feet . John said that he and his wife had been determined not to have another dog , they are about my age so not in the first flush of youth , but he said , they had stopped going for walks , no point he said . They had spent the summer just sitting in their garden , no trips to the beaches or moors, both so close , and then his wife had spotted this little scrap on the website of a local shelter , both fell in love with him and so he came to live with them and according to John, has changed their lives for the better You couldn't get two dogs so poles apart, a bit like Sam and Millie really, but the love for the little dog ( forgot to ask his name ) just shone from John , he said that their purpose in life had been restored , their reason to be , aren't dogs just wonderful x
Re: What dogs can do That's a properly heartwarming story I'm in bits over all the rescue dogs that appear at this time of year particularly. I know why I got Obi but I almost feel guilty having a puppy when all those dogs need homes
Re: What dogs can do Please don't feel guilty Barbara , I sort of felt the same when we got Sam , but when you have a small child in the house , you need to cut down on risks as much as possible xx
Re: What dogs can do I know it's just so sad. One day we will rehome and until then I'm going to offer to do some transporting as I have a big car with a crate and a dog guard. and sorry I didn't mean to detract from your lovely story and the joy that little dog has brought!
Re: What dogs can do Nothing to apologise for xxx Helping in other ways is a lovely thing to do x I was just so thrilled to see John looking happy again , and out and about even on a horrible day like today is
Re: What dogs can do So glad he found something to give him and his wife purpose again as well as rescuing a dog it was obviously meant to be
Re: What dogs can do So good to read that both the people and the little dog have a new lease of life and much love between them.
Re: What dogs can do Ah I'm glad you bumped into him,bet he was as pleased to see you ,Sam and Millie as you were him x
Re: What dogs can do I remember you telling us about John's last walk with Max :'( Such brilliant news John and his wife have a new friend and a whole new lease of life - PERFECT You always write the most lovely threads Kate, thank you xxxxx
