Re: What have I done to him? Well, aspirin is safe for dogs but a vet prescribed medication would be better (more effective). Just wait a bit to see it they call back and then ask if they will give you Metacam or similar without a consultation. They are probably just caught up with something at the moment. If you can't get the painkillers or can't get Dexter to the vet - don't worry! You are seeing your trusted vet tomorrow. What Dexter has is not life threatening and he will recover no matter what you do.
Re: What have I done to him? poor poor you and dexter,,,,,,,FIRST time i have been able to give advice, only because i have read it this week some one is going to come on and say that you can,......at the moment nurse lynne is just telling you what she as read
Re: What have I done to him? Angela - just sneaked a look at my iPad before we go out. So sorry to hear this, must be so worrying for you. Big hugs and licks from us.
Re: What have I done to him? metacam is fine, they may warn you that it can cause upset tummy, jasper was sick off it ,........dont panic angela
Re: What have I done to him? There are human medications that are dangerous for dogs (e.g. paracetamol) so caution is definitely the way to go, Lynne
Re: What have I done to him? i did do some research on this subject as people who know nothing was telling me to give jasper this and that for his elbows,......i dont mean off the forum, i would never give jasper any thing without reading up first,...... with never having a dog i had not got a clue, so the only way was to read up on dos and donts
Re: What have I done to him? Ok calm has resumed I have an appointment in half an hour,I've got to take him but I can fit in the back of the car with him, thank goodness Chris is back......thankyou,thankyou everybody ill let you know how he is .... Xxxxx
Re: What have I done to him? Ok we are back.....blummin uncomfortable in the boot of the car...... I didnt see our usual vet but it wasn't the numpty one either.....diagnosis is he's pulled/ strained a muscle or possibly pinched a nerve.....bless him he was trying to wag his tail when we took him in the consultation room so the vet said he didn't think there was anything more serious to consider .hes had a painkiller jab and is already much brighter, starting to get up and follow me round again( he needs rest so good reason for me to sit like the queen and get Chris to do all the up and downs! ;D ) and I have got 7 days of carrofen ( haven't looked them up yet) but they are anti inflams / painkillers.he examined the tip and said that without having seen it at different stages it was looking good to him. ;D.....although he's seen a similar case before and he eventually operated he said once an enthusiastic wagger, always an enthusiastic wagger!it was the same vet that saw Barni and tam yesterday after they drank all the sea water, once he had established that everyone was on the mend he was laughing his head off at our swimming escapade.....all round, not a success! Thankyou, thankyou for all your help, and kindness,Dexter sends a big lick too and says thank goodness you made me think straight and take him to the vet! ;D xxx
