We all know owning a puppy is both rewarding, challenging and at times irritating. Every new season brings something new and exciting for a puppy. This morning Mabel saw a lady in a pair of flip flops it's only the second time in her life she has seen such footwear. She's really not keen, each time these scary articles have walked past her at great speed making that strange flip floppy noise, she has had to chase, thank goodness she was on a lead. Neither ladies were keen on dogs and had no sense of humour. I just wondered what other things your Labradors may be scared of that totally surprised you. Xx
Time for you to buy a pair of thongs (correct name for flip flops ) and get her used to the concept with some treats. My dog Obi was a bit wary of bronze statues when he was younger so we took him to the National Gallery sculpture garden (which is groaning with Rodins) with a bag of cut up sausage and he soon got over his statue aversion
The timing of this is just about perfect for me. Yesterday, mine were spooked by a big umbrella and ended up barking at, and scaring, the people using it. It was mortifying, and I've already started on desensitisation.
I got my thongs out of the cupboard as soon as I got home she doesn't bat an eye lid at mine, came to the conclusion it's the speed these women were walking, it was really fast don't have think I could ever walk that fast in the sunshine.
I missed stone animal statues off the socialisation list, and the first time we went to Stone Lion vets and found 2 big stone lions outside Charlie had to dance round them for 15 minutes until he realised they dispensed seabiscuits from their paws. Then he had a wee on them, just to show them who was boss.
Barney was very scared of vacuum cleaner, jet washer etc but that's his breeders fault ... We have worked really hard on those issues & now he's ok - maybe not very comfy but at least not scared to death. Shelby & now Ellie are scared of.... nothing Whenever seeing sth new she's just curious what's that. I can see the same attitude in Ellie now.
Juno has never shown any fear of anything so far. New experiences may make her look but has never been particularly bothered.
That's so nice isn't it when they take everything in their stride apart from the fear of traffic she developed a while ago which I have managed to completely eliminate she doesn't show fear that's why I was so surprised by the flip flops. Love reading all the posts it's so interesting. My friends German Shepherd puppy was scared of up turned plant pots in our trainers garden. We had to wait 5 minutes so she could have a good sniff to make sure it was all okay.
Scared of nothing. He even wanted to go and play with the combine harvester in the field next door. !
Being bathed , oh my goodness , you`d think I was trying to murder him . Jump into freezing cold rivers or the sea, not a problem , but a bath ??????
My old Lab Bella was scared of loads of things. Could never of trained her as a gun dog. Was a good girl though.
Fred is scared of Big white sheets flapping in the wind When the wind stops, he moves near them and suddenly they move again and he runs like mad. It is so funny.
I can't breath because of how much these stories made me laugh, hilarious topic! I'm not sure but when Sirius was around 3-4 month old and i turned on the hairdryer, he started to literally bark at it and then proceeded to run at high speed around the house, jumping on a small table we had in a room. julie awesome! kateincornwall A cold river or a swim into the sea? Yes ofcourse! Bath? Hell no! Dog's logic! Karen clearly this is the winner of this topic! (at least for the time being) MaccieD what about the hairdryer? Is she afraid of it? [h=3][/h]
No sorry, not bothered about the hairdryer, not keen when it's turned on her to dry off though , she prefers to dry naturally
Charlie goes absolutely mad with excitement over hair dryers. He once did a butt tuck that lasted 10 minutes inside the drying shed at hydro. The shed was 2m by 2m, and two people couldn't catch him.... Not thrilled by the shower though...
Can just imagine Charlie doing that - my hydro wasn't fancy enough for a drying shed, let alone a hairdryer, just a towel that the owner provided. That's France for you
