Ok so tonight is my first shift back at work, I have been off for a few months. In fact I worked about 5 shifts after getting Rolo and have been off since. I work nights leave the house at 9pm and get home around 7.45am. I will do Rolo's breakfast when I get home, if my daughter hasn't done it already, with it being the weekend I will have the children home so won't have to take them to school. I'm planning to get home, do breakfast for Rolo have a cuppa, take Rolo for a short stroll after his breakfast has settled, and then fingers crossed hit the hay. I don't usually sleep for long anyhow about 3 hours. So my question is do I leave Rolo in the kitchen, 2 entrances into the kitchen one has a stair gate and the other the door remains shut. He has ripped the lino up in the past and I feel worried when he is on his own in there. The children will be about so can keep an eye on him or do I put him in his crate? I hate to do this also, I feel guilty putting him in there. I know that sounds crazy because he spends very little time in there other than to sleep and when I pop to take and collect kids from school. I know I need to trust him in the kitchen eventually. Any advice greatly received. Kris
Re: What to do whilst I am sleeping. For your own peace of mind, I'd put him in the crate. Give him a kong to keep him occupied for a little while, but three hours isn't too long for him to be in there during the day. He'll probably just go to sleep, having had his brekkie and a walk. Sleep well!
Re: What to do whilst I am sleeping. Dex is flat out all morning after his walk and breakfast , I know I could easily go to bed ( oh that I had the chance ;D) until lunchtime at least ....probably even longer x
Re: What to do whilst I am sleeping. Or take him to bed with you. I haven't done this, ever, so I am just guessing what I might do . I hated working nights, so good luck to you!!

Re: What to do whilst I am sleeping. If he's used to sleeping in his crate then definitely crate. He'll be safe and comfortable there.

Re: What to do whilst I am sleeping. Pop him in his crate. It is, in fact, good training for him for the future. You need your sleep and his fidgeting and snoring might keep you awake. We have always crated Molly when we go out, she considers it normal and just curls up and goes to sleep. I leave the door open and she sometimes pops in there for a rest anyway. The expression "It's a dog's life" has always meant it was a pretty poor life. From where I am standing I think our dogs have a pretty good life. Good food, regularly provided, personal trainer for walks, have a nap when you fancy, entertained with toys and private medicine (I can see the Vet quicker than my GP)

Re: What to do whilst I am sleeping. Crate, I worry about leaving Bailey to long but last week had emergency left 3 hrs still sleepy on return one kong unbeaten!
