Cooper is 9 weeks and has been home for a week. We have kept him close, mostly in the lounge, conservatory and obviously in the garden. I know it's suggested that you keep them a bit constrained for a while due to toilet training, but for how long? Obviously we are now in that phase where we need to introduce as many new experiences and situations as possible, so I don't want to get that wrong either! Should I start introducing another room now, and how quickly? Obviously don't want him going upstairs yet to keeping him away from stairs for a while. Thanks for any guidance!
We kept Holly quite contained (and still do actually), we introduced her on a lead to all the rooms when we first brought her home, then she was restricted only to the kitchen/living room space. Even now she only goes into the other rooms when supervised. She’s still a furniture chew risk haha! The new experiences and situations should all be happening outside of your home, in your home i guess it can be people coming over, dogs coming over etc. But I wouldn’t worry about getting her access to new rooms right now. If they don’t consider it as part of their immediate living space then they will pee in it, so its best to wait until their bladder capacity is a bit better and then build on spending time in different rooms doing things together. So they get its not a toilet space.
Same here. Harry was confined to the open plan kitchen/living/dining room (though we have a dog gate to separate off the kitchen when necessary) Once we were sure of his bladder control he was allowed into the separate lounge with us at night, though to be honest we don't use that room much, he's never tried to pee there.
Thanks so much for your replies. We'll keep him in the lounge and conservatory for now then. Definitely haven't got toilet training sussed, although we're getting a lot better as noticing when he's getting ready to go!! Really appreciate your help.
