Hi, thought it would be nice to see where we are all from.. It would be awesome if some of us were nearby and our lab boys n girls could meet and play I am from a small rural town called Pyramid Hill Northern Victoria Australia
We have a map you can add yourself to http://thelabradorforum.com/threads/forum-members-map-where-are-you.10860/
Oh how fab @snowbunny If you're ever here for more than a few days with your three give me a shout! Where do you frequent for walks with the dogs when you visit
We stay in Hale Village, which is where his sister is, and so we walk around there. There's a place at the end of the runway which is pretty cool, waving to the pilots as they come in to land
Hi there! From San Jose (San Francisco Bay Area), California, USA. Resident of Regensburg (Bavaria), Germany. Spend part of the year in Chiclana de la Frontera (Cadiz, Andalusia) Spain. I usually manage to land in Ireland and Italy for a couple months once a year as well. I've never been to Australia or New Zealand, but would LOVE to visit one day.
@Emily_BabbelHund Hi Emily, Ive only been on the forum for a few months, I know a part of your story about your puppy journey.. But I still haven't managed to find out why you travel a lot, If im being intrusive just tell me to poke out!
Not being intrusive at all - I get that question a lot! Short answer (or as near as I can manage given my verbosity), is that 6.5 years ago I got offered my dream job working from home but in Europe, but only for three months. So I didn't want to sign a long-term lease, buy furniture, etc. etc. for only three months. I also wanted to get the most out of my time, so started in Paris, then Perugia, then Venice, then Regensburg, then Kerry, then Salamanca...you get the idea. Well, that three month contract has been extended now for nearly seven years, and moving around just seems normal to me. I don't move nearly as much as I used to - now usually only 4-6 times a year where I think I moved 14 times in the first year - and I have places (furnished vacation rentals) I stay in Germany and Spain that are home bases that I return each year and reserve very far in advance. Although I travel a couple of times a year for my job, none of the moves has to do with work - just places that I love and a serious case of itchy feet.
@Emily_BabbelHund Fabulous, I love an insight into peoples world....It sounds amazing... I hope you are enjoying it as much as that first day you started. Thanks for sharing with me what an amazing life experience. I'm jealous. Do you ever miss what you class as home?
The work itself can be a bit odd - the company keeps getting split up and sold off. I do have the feeling it's on its last legs at this point, but hopefully I'm wrong! The biggest misconception people have is that I'm constantly on holiday but in fact I have to all the normal life stuff (doctors' visits, taxes, grocery shopping, getting my car serviced) but I just do it in various countries. But I also understand why it sounds rather exotic and that I'm quite lucky. At this point, Germany and Spain are "home", especially Germany. Most of the Silicon Valley (San Jose) rat race I do not miss at all, but I do desperately miss Mexican food, which I've determined after much searching and many scary dining experiences simply doesn't exist in Europe. And sometimes I miss being able to speak English out in public. That's a lot of what my Irish interludes have to do with...me wanting to go somewhere to hear English for a while and spend time with a friend who shares my native language (or at least the delightful Irish version of it). But I'm on track to getting my permanent residency in Germany, so barring some big life event, this is home now. If I could just find a good Mexican restaurant (oh, and a dog) life would be complete.
I think that's the same place I walk my parent's setter ....although I approach it from the different side !! I'll drop you a message next time I'm back ...when the Summer comes I'll have the Desert Devil with me .....if I pop back before alone it would still be nice to meet up and to have a walk with you x
