    Hi all,
I’m planning on getting a black labrador puppy in the next few months and now in the planning stages. I’ve been looking at crates for crate training, but there are so many to choose from it all seems a bit overwhelming!
    Has anyone got any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance!

I'd suggest buying second hand and selling them on so that you can always use one the right size rather than be tempted to buy a big one for him to grow into. Ideally you want a crate as small as possible for them to feel nice a snug and secure in and not having room away the bed to toilet.
I like metal crates rather then soft fabric ones so i don't have to worry about them chewing at and potemtially swallowing dangerous bits.

we bought a metal crate in a size large that had a divider but we never used the divider, he has never had an accident in there luckily. In around March it was looking a bit snug for him so replaced with an XL. We didn't think we'd still be using a crate but he loves sleeping in there at night

I like the large metal crates with the dividers. Cooper slept in her's in the kitchen for years, after we stopped actually crating her. We just took it down for a kitchen remodel, and it won't go back. I was worried that she might be upset by the loss of her cave, but she did not seem to care.

We started Harry off in a medium size metal crate (with a metal floor) as it fitted nicely by the side of the bed. We had an extra large one downstairs for daytime. Bought both of them through Amazon as they were considerably less expensive than anywhere else. We also bought vet bed as crate liners. Brilliant stuff.

    Hi
We have had our boy 3 weeks and we use a large crate with a bed and blanket in and he’s never had an accident in the crate and we don’t use a divider but when we got him the breeder had told us that the pups never went to the toilet where they slept they always went outside :) so we’ve been very lucky with toilet training him :)
    Goodluck on getting your pup!

I suggest looking at the area you plan to keep the kennel, and if you are going to move it for various reasons. If you know where you plan to keep it, it can help you decide on sizes and door options. I recommend metal crates because they're durable, and stronger if the dog gets to chewing on them. If you plan to move the kennel between spots during day/night, or other reasons, you'll want to consider the ability and ease of it to fold down. If you plan to keep just one kennel, and it will stay in the same area for as long as you plan to use it, you may be able to get the bigger crate, and a divider. Also, if you know where you are going to keep the crate, you will be able to determine a single door, double door, or more.

I got Captain a 48" crate, and it is bigger than what is needed. He is 10 months, so he has a little more time to grow, but it is not likely that he will grow to the size where he needs a 48" crate. We bought it new, and with a divider. If i could go back, i would have bought a used one with a divider; we definitely used the divider as he grew.

I have a 42 inches crate, I prefer a bigger one since Sky can use it in the long run even if he is still a puppy as of the moment. I find it spacious since I can put a bed inside and I love the fact that he can move if he wants to.
