Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? When Mollie retriever cross collie died we wanted a similar size temperament as a companion for Betty Chihuahua, she is less nervous trotting along side a larger companion and we like a contrast of sizes as we believe they are less likely to fight or fall out seriously. We went to look at retrievers, collies and Labradors before we found Elsie, she was in bit of a state, dirty and smelly and we just made what they tell you not to do, a decision on wanting to just get her out of the situation. If we could have taken all the pups we would but that wasn't possible.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? I asked for four legs, big paws and a tail for Christmas. (I know naughty but I was 23 ) Christmas eve my dad came home from delivering pressies with a big, black lab pup. My Murphy. Murphy was a big softy. Loved everyone and everything and would do anything for a ball. You can imagine what a shock to the system Scott and Scout are in comparison. : A lab was the only dog my mum would even consider coming in the house. She is not doggy at all. I spent the first two months in the kitchen with Murphy because he wasn't allowed anywhere else. He soon quietly sneaked into the living room though and then even got away with going upstairs out of the way of my cousins toddler when he came across the yard. I tried to sneak off too but didn't get away with it. He was a good dog. ;D
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? As a child we had a Labrador x golden retriever called Honey. She was the runt of the litter, a very petite yellow girl, but so loving and clever. She was my Mum's 3rd child! She died at age 14 when I was 22 and I swore I'd never have a dog after seeing how heart broken my Mum was. But as time has gone on I just couldn't stop myself looking at everyone's labs and wishing they were mine! So here we are 20 something years later with Miss Maisie and having her was the best decision ever! ;D

Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? When I lost Jessie, the best cocker spaniel in the world, I thought I wanted another cocker bitch. However this was pre internet search days so restricted to the local papers and I couldn't find a cocker, started to feel desperate for a dog and just went to look at 2 remaining chocolate Lab pups, both boys.Of course I came home with one , my beautiful Rolo, who lived for well over 14 years. When a friend came round to meet my new puppy, she commented, 'I don't know if you've noticed but that's not a girl and its not a spaniel.' Molly was a spur of the moment acquisition as well. I didn't want a Lab too much like Rolo(it felt I'd be trying to replace him) and was browsing adverts when I came across a left-over Chessie cross Lab. Again, only went to look.... No regrets.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My OH grew up with a black lab... and I used to date a guy with 2 black lab bitches.... it's the only breed either of us have ever had any experience with.... Plus they were top of the list in relation to kids, family life and training... it was a no brainer for us
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? We had a boxer, who was great but we wanted a dog with a little bit more intelligence this time, we certainly found it in Hollie
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? Me and my OH had never had a dog. His dad had a choc lab who was so sweet. Great with my kids a big softie. My brother and my sister had always had alsations but never were very healthy. Me and OH have never had good relationships with dogs both being bitten when younger and this had rubbed off on the kids and didn't want this pattern to continue. So my hubby said lets get a dog I said which breed he said it has to be a lab a chocolate lab and I couldn't agree more, great temperament, great personality, very loving and gentle. (Not so much with the gentle at the minute but we are getting there). I am so pleased we chose a choc lab, lots of people have told me how dim they are but Rolo keeps proving them wrong.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? My parents had a black lab before I was born and we had a black lab/collie cross after her. Hubby's parents also had a black lab before he was born. After he died they went to choose a golden retriever pup and ended up with two (they chose one, hubby had fallen for one of the others and nagged - he was about 9!) When we were finally in a position to have our own there was no doubt it would have to be a 'proper dog' but the choice ended up being mine as it was a birthday gift from my brother. Hubby still angling for a GR :

Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? (Covers Tatze's ears) I must say a 50% Lab 50% Golden Retriever cross makes a wonderful dog! I have met lots and lots of them and they are intelligent and very teachable with a really steady streak ;D
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? Ummm... yes. My sister had a lab/Golden Retriever cross, and he was an absolute holy terror as a young dog, very egocentric and generally a bit of a pest! He chilled out as he got older though, and in later years was delightful.
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? I previously owned and worked German Wirehaired Pointers (GWP's). When my health lessened and I was no longer able to keep up with them I sought out a Labrador. Why? Simply because they continually impressed me when I saw them both working and also relaxing being just great dogs with their people and other dogs around them. They are such easy, pleasant and happy beasties compared to the totally mentally driven GWPs! Here's an example .... teaching a pup to sit: Labrador says "Okay, how, teach me and I sure will" GWP simply says "Why?!" I was irretrievably smitten as The DivaDog thoroughly knows
Re: Why did you choose a Labrador ? i have had various breeds over the years but my husband who i have been with for the last 5 years wanted a yellow lab bitch so that is what we have many of you on here may have seen my posts on here mostly about sleeping problems but now milly is 18months she is a dream so intelligent and loving my husband is quite unwell and she stays with him a lot if he does not feel well it really makes us laugh when he is stretched out on the sofa with milly on his lap stretched right out
