I had never actually heard of dog parks. Interesting to hear the experiences of dog-owners around the world. Strange that, as a relatively densely populated island, Britain allows so much freedom to dogs and responsibility to the owners to keep them appropriately under control.

In Scotland I realise just how lucky we are to have fantastic countryside to let our dog run and swim freely. In law, we have the 'right to roam' pretty much anywhere as long as we do no damage to property, crops or livestock.

I like the sound of purple lavender scented poo bags - are they strong? Are they on amazon? ::)

    Yup.

The ones I'm using right now are eco-baby nappy sacks that come in a pretty pale blue. :)

I buy these at TK Max 120 bags for £3.99 :)

Gosh, makes you realise how lucky we are living in the UK. Going on holiday to Devon and Cornwall is great. Some shops actually let you take your dog in with you which is great for me, don't like leaving her outside shops etc. Certain eating places let you take them in with you as well.

i would love a dog park. i have never quite understood it either. i walk past many people walking their dogs in the morning and i like ot strike up conversations or quick hello's. most people just wnat to go about their business, not even bothering with a hello.

dog parks are a great place to meet neighbors and make friends.

there is a dog park near me but its about a 10 minute drive and that is too much for my dog i'm afraid.

I am just outside Burlington VT. Even though there are leash laws I guess, I dont feel like they are really enforced. In my neighborhood I walk my 12 year old lab off-leash all the time. He's too old to go far from me. I havent had anyone complain. People do keep their dogs both on and off leash at the local town park. Its not a dog-park, but it is dog-friendly. I would take my dog off leash there if it wasnt very busy and if I was confident that my dog wouldnt run far from me. I could do that with my 12 year old now, but not with a new puppy right away - except I will do it on non busy times with a new puppy.

Cubby, have you seen Pippa's articles about having puppies off lead? They are probably on this forum under puppy articles or you can find them on The Labrador Site. I have a lovely quiet meadow in mind for my puppy, once her jabs are all done, to have her off lead and following me.
They are good articles and you can see Pippa showing her pup off lead on Youtube - Rachael's journey. :) :) Just thought you might be interested.

I don't think I could take Lola to a dog park. She has zero etiquette and thinks every dog wants to wrestle. We can go a week or two without seeing another dog sometimes and when we do we only seem to come across the grumpy old fellas who shout at her! As for scented poo bags, I use nappy bags, 200 for a quid at asda.

I have a purple flower dickie bag too, with an apple blossom scented cardboard freshner in it. :). I like touches of luxury around picking up dog poo.

Sipping champagne with a view of the ocean while scoffing oysters is luxurious. Picking up poo is not luxurious, no matter how frilly and scented your receptacle.

Picking up poo can be made less disgusting, but not luxurious.

It's about your poo pick up state of mind. Concentrate on the wafts of lavender, the deliciousness of apple blossom, the prettiness of the dickie bag - and block out the bit in the middle. ;D ;D ;D

Instead of thinking Yuk!! Yuk! Yuk! I've got to pick up poo! ;D ;D ;D

You still have to pick up the poo though. There is no getting away from it.

    Funny, but true, story.

On a warm summer day many years ago my teenage (couldn't be worse) daughter and I were walking my dog Alice. Alice pooped on a walk, which was unusual, however I always had a poobag in my pocket. I did "the business".

Now I had a problem. I was wearing trousers and didn't fancy squishing it into my pocket. I was also not a fan of walking along with warm little package in my hand. Hit on the idea of tying it to Alice's collar.

We rounded a corner and encountered a little old lady gardening. As is our custom we stopped to exchange pleasantries.

Little old lady beams at Alice, nods towards the bag dangling from her collar "What have got there? Is it your sweeties?" I managed to smile and tell her the truth.

We just made it round the corner before Caroline and I nearly suffocated with laughter.

    Have a nice day

My hubby just asked what I was laughing at. I said "A funny story about dog poo".

    He's a bit mystified.
