I don't know maybe it happened because there were 2 dogs and just Riley
Possibly but the first thing out of the owners mouth was to question if Riley was male.
Were his dogs male?

I think to say there is definitely something in castrated dogs is a generalisation and needs statistics and a bit unfair towards neutered dogs :(
It would be a dull world if we can't repeat our experiences. :) That's all I was doing. With the think highlighted to underline it as an opinion. I think this is fair.
Yes it's fair and I am sure you and Charlie meet as many kind neutered dogs as you do intact :) ;)

We meet very many more - we live in a largely castrated world of course. :)

yes they were, I didn't see if both were intact or not too busy defending my boy who says thank you to everyone for the copious tummy rubs!

    Poor Riley.

My old lab was forever getting attacked. Very rarely did I get an apology. Unfortunately it seems to be the way some owners are. Or I'd get 'oh he's never done that before' which was just as annoying.

Hibiscrub as has been suggested as it won't dry the wound up but will get rid of germs. With bite wounds you don't want them to scab over too quick until the germs are out.

It didn't matter how often he got attacked though it had no effect on him. He never attacked back and he never worried about other dogs. I'm sure Riley won't let it worry him.

Sorry poor Riley got bitten. Most dogs do get into a scrap at some time in their lives, but nonetheless it is very upsetting when it happens. I hope Riley is ok. X

    Poor Riley.
Hope his gorgeous ear is okay, and his confidence not dented.
    Further tummy rubs from me.

Poor Riley :( So sorry that he had a fright :( Give the little man a pat from me too.

Re. dog fights.....Compared to the very significant impact of clueless, narcissistic and irresponsible owners, I think that the contribution made by the 'ball or no ball' factor is pretty tiny.

So sorry you had his experience,I'm sure it shakes you up as much as it did Riley, hope the ear wound is just superficial and that Lizzie 'dropped' him a couple of treats to cheer him up!x

Thanks all, Riley's ear looks ok this morning, the skin is a little bit more red round the cut but only a little and he doesn't mind you touching it tooooooo much. Obviously ear washing requires quite a lot of treats as it's such a traumatic experience ::) so he's doing ok Angela :)

Sadly no nice dogs out to meet this morning only Rocky the boxer who, while a lovely dog, is all male and Riley's always been very submissive around him so OH had to trot Riley past quickly before concrete bum set in.

I'll try and find some friendly dogs this afternoon.....work in London now unfortunately so boring rest day for the boy.

Just to complicate the debate of intact or not intact males being worse. Murphy got attacked numerous times by bitches !!! I think it's to do with the dog as much as the hormones. ::)

And after todays experience I think I could add the question of "Why is it OK for your dog to bite mine because your dog is small?". Tarkie was lying down submitting to two Chihuahuas today which promptly jumped on her back and bit her neck. I "swept" them off her back with my boot and the owner grumbled at me with the comment "That dog needs to learn to stand up for itself". Speechless.

    Little dog syndrome. ;)

Hope Tarka is ok . You should've drop kicked the chihuahuas !

I think some people with little dogs don't think they have to do anything about aggression or their behaviour because they can just drag them away if on lead and they don't sound as scary as a big dog. :(

You would get on well with my OH, Jen ;)

Poor Tarka - hope she recovers from her nasty experience. I can imagine your speechlessness.
