OK, so on the fox poo subject, I have heard how appalling it is. I've never had the pleasure of having it on one of my dogs. Why doesn't regular shampoo work??

No idea - but the smell is so STRONG!! Not much will beat it! Also, any shampoo strips the dog's natural oils so they are less waterproof and much more smelly - far better to use no shampoo at all :)

Here it is - I hose the dog down, then I put rubber gloves on, squirt in on my hands rub it on the 'affected' parts, towel off, then rub another lot on and leave to dry.

It works, with no bathing. I don't like to bath them at all.

Thanks Mags! Poor Maisie hates the hosing down bit, she refuses to go in the back garden now as she knows what's coming! ;D

This makes sense - same applies to ferrets, so they don't get bathed ever and they're far less smelly for it - the bathing makes them produce a lot more oil (which is the bit that smells musty) to counteract the dryness.

I shall have to wait and see if Willow and her brother are fox poo rollers :-\

I think it is all a question of breeding. The better your pedigree the less likely you are to have the problem. OK I will get my coat!

We have good breeders here in B.C. (and no foxes) At least I've only seen one.

Pongo is happy to ignore fox poo (apart from trying to eat it).

The local farmer's slurry pit now.... that is an entirely different matter.....

The one time he discovered it he dived straight in and did a full length. We washed him for three hours and he was the shiniest white puppy in the world....but still stank to high heaven. For days.

We don't walk that way any more.

There seems to be an implication here that rolling = poor pedigree. I wish to put on record that Lady's pedigree is impeccable and that if she chooses to roll in Fox pooh at each and every opportunity it's her royal right!

Maisie, AKA Lady Maisie, was somewhat upset to think that her pedigree may be in question! However, after today's episode, she's certainlly no lady....fox AND cow today!

Charlie has only one ancestor of note, and that was a French street urchin made good - a very accidental show champion. And he has only rolled in fox poo once. He much prefers dead seagulls. So there.

    ;D ;D ;D

Holly has an impeccable pedigree. She comes from a long line of scavengers and poo rollers.
