    Hi,
If I buy a working lab as a pet, is it still a working labrador. If not what is it classed as? Sorry for the random question!
    Thanks x

    Hi Abi,

No question is too random here :)

Even though there is only one Labrador Retriever breed, breeding for different purposes over many generations means there are now two distinct types of Labrador, with slightly different looks and temperaments.

Working Labs, also known as American Labs or Field Labs are slightly taller and leaner. They tend to have more energy and stamina.

Show Labs, also known as English Labs or Field Labs are slightly shorter and stockier. They tend to be more placid and easy going.

So yes, whether you work your working Lab or not, they would still belong to the working type.

This article explains in a bit more detail!
