I was in a similar situation with Doug and Rory. In lthe end I just did it and it worked out really well. It was just fun. Rory bought laughter and happiness in to the house and supported moo when Doug died .

I think filling his time with things that he loves is a great idea. On a personal level i find distracting myself from pain and doing things which engage me a very theraputic thing. Perhaps having him focus on enjoyable things helps him. I know it does me.

I don't mean to be morose but I read this the other day and it has become my morning mantra in the mirror:

You can gather the direction I would encourage from this:)

Aw I think that's a great idea. Giving a dog in need a loving home and giving Sam a new best friend

Good, that seems a step in the right direction. Wispa was not yet two when she became an 'only dog' when our two other dogs died a few months apart. She certainly appreciates having Tuppence around, even if Tuppy can be a bit demanding - and it's not all one way. Wispa often seeks out Tuppy to play and they wait for each other to explore the garden together, although each one also spends time 'doing her own thing'. The two of them are good company for each other.

Do take photos and keep us posted!

Thanks again , we shall take Sam with us and also my daughter and our nine year old grandson who live close to us , to test the water , so to speak ! This is a private rehome , the owner is sad to part with her, she says its for personal health reasons . I`m not easily fooled so I will know if it looks and seems right , I think , and will try not to let heart rule head . If it isn't right , we shall walk , and just enjoy the day trip to Torquay !

Keep all fingers and toes crossed that this pup is the right one... and if not, the right one is out there! :)

As my mentor always says, 'Trust your gut', if you're not comfortable about something, even if you can't pin down what it is - walk away. Having said that I'm crossing fingers, and toes that all goes well with the visit :)

Good luck and I am sure the while family will enjoy the addition. You will know when it feels right, and following your instinct is always the best.
Enjoy the icecream on your day out :)
