My 5 year old Labrador keeps licking his paws and ankles.
On left rear ankle there is a wound because of constant licking. There is swelling around the wound too.

    How to attach photo here?

Please suggest medicine and also ways to prevent it licking.
Due to lockdown I have not been able to take him for walks. Could that be the reason for licking.

Hi Lakshminarayan, welcome to the forum!

The kind of wound you're describing is called a lick granuloma, but it's also commonly known as a 'hot spot' among dog owners. Labs are rather prone to them, since their thick fur keeps moisture close to the skin, which stops small skin injuries healing quickly. They're very sore and uncomfortable for our dogs.

Hot spots are a common entry point for infection, and if the area is swollen it sounds like that might have happened here. You need call a vet, who may prescribe antibiotics.

The licking might well be a displacement activity because he's not getting enough exercise. Try using brain games and interactive toys to help him pass the time while you're indoors.

Good luck, I hope he's better soon!
