AMY has forgotten how to lay down in a evening and watch Tv! Must need to do even more with her during the day. Thank goodness its been a few nice evenings so been ok in garden with her. Can you remind me how to get her to settle on a evening. She is a lucky girl and has my attention the whole day, so I want a little peace after 8! Lol

See above....I Think we have cracked the tv watching with Dexter.....no this was a fluke! He is pretty good in the evening,we do what I call a 'socialization walk' about 6 pm ...it's still quite hot then and getting humid so we do just go around the park to meet people, things, distractions. He'll settle then for a while after that but during the evening we have 2 things ....
He will snooze, play or just be chilling then get up and go and sit by the back door...ok you think, out for wee? No,No!No ,this is his thinly disguised plan to get out in the garden to dig for stones......he'll have us about 6 times over the night.....just in case he's not bluffing but he'll ask to go out a LOT more than that!ive got a photo somewhere of the winsome ,longing look he wears as he pensively gazes out the glass door, dreaming of all the elusive stones just waiting out there.....
The second thing is the 'Prowl'.....even my 4 year old nephew George has become adept at identifying this .....'oh No Auntie,he's prowling!'this means all hands on deck for scooping up anything he would normally ignore ,he stalks round the house sniffing for anything he can grab and make away with....George usually scoots up to the highest point of the sofa at this stage as we have learned his bedtime milk/books are fair game ,during 'The Prowl'!Its a totally different behavior to the day...he never bothers then with the kids drinks then .......

Yes Rachael he is.....I'm going to get his papers out when I get home and trace his ancestry back.Im sure there is a bit of 'red' in there.....in the photo Steve put up the other week where you were telling me about the Brown/black you can see in the yellows.....I was interested to see the red lab on there.Somebody also mentioned 'amber' ears on the reds and I would say Dex's ears are amber....he's got a lovely blonde behind that feathers perfectly down his legs, can't wait to see him, even though I know I'm lucky to be having such a lovely holiday 8) i know Lynne has already asked you about Obi on the other thread,so I won't start on here, but let us know how he goes getting the staples out and how you and him are feeling about going back to daycare ......

I will let you guys know :) Thankyou for asking. Bit apprehensive on the daycare front...! Keep telling myself that the risk is no greater than it is in any other dog-rich environment.

With the degree of red in a coat - that's a separate gene or set of genes to the ones that govern black, chocolate and 'not being black or choc but yellow of some kind'. The recessive yellow genes that prevent black pigment being deposited in fur have no effect on red pigment. There are probably a cluster of genes that separately govern the expression of red. Obi's version is 'cream with toffee ears' :) In simple terms, though, it can be conceptualised as three genes. The first two come in two alleles or 'flavours':
    1. Black or Chocolate (choc is recessive - need two copies to be choc, otherwise you are black)
    2. Not-yellow or Yellow (yellow is recessive - need two copies to be yellow, otherwise you are black or choc)
    3. Something that determines how much red you have in your coat. Not much is known about this.

Oh my goodness I can identify with the "prowl"!! We've bought a nice new bed for Simba to laze about on while we're watching TV at night but it hasn't got much use yet....

Amy's grandma is red, dad is black and mum was yellow. Going to walk her on a evening too, normally go in morning. she is totally crazy last night, had been a hot day so maybe she was playful when it cooled. She us having a sleepover with the boys at Grandma"s tonight. She has been before but not with the boys. But to make it easy she is coming for Amy once boys are in bed.
