Hi All, We are a family of 4 and now 5. Maximus is our 8 week old adorable and handsome lab. We are new to owning a dog. We got him when he was 7 weeks and in one week he has suddenly become so active. I can see he has a lot of energy and power. I am worried about his constant urge to chew on things..any advise will be super helpful..
Hi there and welcome to the forum Congratulations on your new puppy. Lots of fun ahead for you Here's an article on chewing https://www.thelabradorsite.com/how-to-stop-a-dog-from-chewing/ and a thread on biting to get you started: https://thelabradorforum.com/threads/biting-puppies-help-for-new-puppy-parents.24782/ and lots of general puppy info here and on the main site https://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-puppies/. Let us know what you have tried so far, and how you get on over the next few days - and have a great Christmas!
Welcome and Congratulations. As for the chewing get lots of chew toys. Our dogs love Petstages Dogwood Sticks. Kongs are great too.
Thank you. I will have him try those. So far he has shown no interest in chewable bone and treats. Yesterday my daughter picked up a soft wood from the trail.. he seems to like that..
Hi Supermom, we have 2 new puppies & had all the chew toys, cords, kong & chew balls at the ready for all the puppy chewing & sure enough they ignored all of them. My husband was cutting back the passionflower creeper that grows on the front walls of our house & they grabbed a piece that is still intact 3 weeks later & providing plenty of chew activity when they are in their crate, sticks they pick up to chew outside end up in pieces quite quickly, whereas the passionflower is a vine, so I think that is the difference. Otherwise when they are out of their crate in the evenings with us they kept going for my hubby's old boating shoes that he wears around the house, he lets them have them as they are very old & they love to fall asleep on them. They are still in one piece, though minus the lining. So if you have an old pair of shoes (natural fibres not plastic) you could give that a try. Their favourite chew toys, being puppies, is of course each other !
